Introduction

¢ñ. Overview

The College of Computer and Information Engineering was established in Dec.2012 by combining the original Department of Computer Science & Technology with Department of Spatial Information Science& Engineering. Upholding the spirit of ¡°harmony, strictness, pragmatism and innovation¡±, the college is dedicated to and with a command of discipline-based knowledge and experimental skills.

Specialty (direction) and Students: There are 9 undergraduate specialties which include Computer Science and Technology (provincial characteristic specialty), Internet of Things Engineering, Business Intelligence, Network Engineering, Software Engineering, Spatial Information and Digital Technology (school-level characteristic specialty), Financial Services Engineering, Information Services Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, etc. The college now has a total enrollment of over 2200 students with an average of 750 new students enrolled each year.

Teacher Resource: The college has a total of 107 teaching staff, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (dual-employed), 40 doctors(4 post doctors), 3 PHD candidates, 15 teachers with oversea study or work experience, 14 teachers with work experience in companies and 27 teachers with the senior teaching qualifications.

Research Direction: embedded system, computer software and theory, network and information security, graphic image and virtual reality, data mining, geographical information system and its application, remote sensing of environmental resources, satellite positioning and navigation and its application, digital city, etc.

Laboratory (Conditions): The laboratory has a domestic first-class experimental teaching environment. It covers an area of over 3600 square meters with total investment of over 200 million RMB worth apparatuses and equipment.  A complete laboratory system has been built here including 4 centers (computer center, high-performance computing center, innovative practice engineering center, surveying and mapping engineering training center), 3 basic laboratories (basis software, hardware technology fundamentals, computer system assembly and maintenance), 9 professional laboratories(embedded computer system, network engineering and technology, software engineering, information security and assessment, digital content and intelligence information processing, virtual simulation technology, intelligent building, laboratory of remote sensing and geographical information system, laboratory of satellite navigation and positioning, laboratory of digital engineering and laboratory of spatial information technology innovation), university-Cisco joint lab, MapGIS associated lab (MapGIS education and scientific research cooperation base) and other platforms such as education and research onCORS system of South Surveying and Mapping Co., Ltd. The lab is equipped with 1100 sets of high-end PCs and each student in the lab has their own machine when making experiments. The laboratory also has high-accuracy CORS system, RTK, ASD Spectro Isort, experimental platform for OLinkStar GPS principle, VISTA HCX GPS, mobile PDA, theodolite, Total Station, apparatus like the GPS receivers of different kinds,  software including ArcGIS, MapGIS, ENVI, ERDAS, eCognition and VirtuoZo NT, serving for the professional  experimental teaching in measurement, remote sensing, geographic information system, etc.

Professional Qualification Certificate Test: All students have opportunities to attend different kinds of qualification certificate examinations such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP, the National Computer Rank Examination, the National Software Qualification Examination, the English Proficiency Test for IT Professionals, the National Service Outsourcing Examination, the GIS Performance Engineer Examination etc.

Scientific Achievements: From 2008 to 2012, the college had undertaken 10 national projects (including sub-projects), 23 provincial projects and more than 40 municipal and transverse scientific research projects. What is more, the college had won 6 prizes at the provincial level or above and registered 8 software copyrights. The level, quantity and expenditure of these scientific projects are in the forefront of the school.Over 100 papers are indexed in SCI, EI and ISTP, and more than 10 patents such assoftware copyright are registered.

Contest and Awards: With a command of disciplined-based knowledge and experimental skills, our students have a good performance in National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, National English Contest for College Students, Undergraduate Programming Contest, National GIS Skills Contest, "Big Dipper Cup" Adolescent Scientific Competition (BD-CASTIC), "Cisco Networking Academy Cup" Undergraduate Network technology Contest, "Masaho Education Cup" National Education Project Employment Skills Competition on ITAT, "Bo Chuang Cup" Undergraduate Embedded Design Contest, "UFIDA Cup" Sand Table Simulation Competition, "Challenge Cup" Undergraduate Contest for the Extra-curricular Academic Works of Science and Technology, Amway Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition, "Challenge Cup" Fujian Business Plan Competition for College Students. More than 130 students won national-level awards and 189 students won provincial-level awards in 2013.

¢ô. Foreign Cooperation and Exchange

Sino-foreign Cooperation in Education: The College has signed the agreement with Hull University and Regina University on the mutual recognition of credits. Every undergraduate has the chance to choose the mode of ¡°2+2¡± with diplomas both at home and abroad, as well as the opportunity to choose the mode of ¡°1+1¡± to obtain the master degree of international universities after graduation.

Fujian-Taiwan Cooperation: We have formed partnerships with Taiwan Ming-Chuan College, Taichung's Providence University, Chaoyang University of Technology, Hsiuping University of Science and Technology and the National Taichung Institute of Technology. Internet of Things Engineering and Business Intelligence are the main cooperation field.

University-industry-research Collaboration: The college has cooperation with more than 20 domestic and local enterprises in university-industry-research field. These companies include IBM, Cisco, Oracle, UFIDA, Yamaha, Wan¡¯an Industry, CGCOC Group, South Surveying and Mapping Group, Xiamen Fine Figure, Xiamen Silver Data and Minkuang Surveying & Mapping Institute.

Laboratories under University-enterprise Cooperation: Many laboratories are established jointly with enterprises including IBM, Cisco, ORACLE, Taichung Computer Association, Beijing Bochuang, Xi¡¯an Tangdu, Xiamen GSD Scitech, CGCOC Group, South Surveying and Mapping Group.

International Faculty: the college employs lots of part-time professors from universities and enterprises in the US, Canada, Ireland, India, Taiwan etc. Mr. Fanyu, the Senior Vice President of IBM, as well with other outstanding persons in the industry, is also invited as our visiting professor.

¢õ. Alumni Affairs

Until December 2013, our college has cultivated more than 2400 undergraduates in the specialties of Computer Science and Technology, Internet Engineering, Software Engineering, Space Information, Digital Technology etc. Our graduates are widely accepted by the society and enterprises like Xiamen Dell Company, IBM Company, ICSS-HS, Xiamen Agricultural Bank by their great professional skills and down-to-earth attitudes. Serving as an important connection unit and adhering to the principle of ¡°Be a home for alumni, be a helpful hand for alumni to success¡±, the branch of College Alumni Association assists school in launching school anniversary celebration and irregular alumni relations activities, invites the alumni to hold a variety of lectures and seminars for student at school as well as organizes students¡¯ internship in their companies.
